Welcome to the Engineering Department.

Our primary offices are located at the James B. Garland Municipal Business Center, 150 S. York Street, Gastonia, N.C. The Engineering staff is more than happy to answer your questions and provide any information we can as related to the City's Engineering functions and services.

 

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide efficient, centralized, and cost effective municipal engineering services to the citizens, as well as other Divisions and Departments of the City. Furthermore, we intend to be good stewards of public resources in order to enhance the quality of life in the City of Gastonia and Gaston County.

Services

One of the main functions of the Engineering Department is supporting all other Departments and Divisions within the City, and providing public assistance with regard to administering local ordinances, policies, and procedures.

Basic Engineering Services

Among the basic engineering services provided are: Public water and sanitary sewer extensions, street design, storm water services, construction administration and observation, right-of-way acquisition, surveying for municipal projects, traffic engineering, sidewalks, administration of the Subdivision Ordinance, administration of the Site Plan Ordinance, preparation and review of flood plain studies, state delegated Water/Sewer Permit Approval Program

Other services provided by the Department:

Official City maps, assignment of street addresses, verification of addresses, issuance of driveway permits, event/street closing permits, and design of street lighting. A fee schedule is available which outlines fees associated with the Engineering Department functions.

Faculty

The Department is headed by, and staffed with engineers duly licensed in the State of North Carolina by the Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors. The end result of all Engineering Department functions, whether directly or indirectly, is to provide quality and efficient service to the citizens of Gastonia.
